(NaOCl) is a compound that can be effectively used for water purification. It is used on a large scale for surface purification, bleaching,odor removal and water disinfection. Sodium hypochlorite is a chemical compound with the formula NaClO. It is composed of a sodium cation (Na+) and ahypochlorite anion (ClO), it may also be viewed as the sodium salt of hypochlorous acid. It is commonly known as bleach or liquid bleach, is frequently used as a disinfectant or a bleaching agent.

Uses:

• Sodium hypochlorite has been used for the disinfection ofdrinking water or water systems.
• Sodium hypochlorite solutions have been used to treat dilutecyanide wastewater, such as electroplating wastes.
• Sodium hypochlorite is commonly used as a biocide in industrial applications to control slime and bacteria formation in water systems used at power plants, pulp and paper mills, etc.
